supervision
Is for counselors working toward licensure and involves a more consistent time commitment determined by licensure standards such as the number of clients you are seeing per week. In the state of Colorado, supervision is an agreement to oversee your clinical work. Supervision includes support around the following components of practice:

  • Client case conceptualization and review
  • Ethical practices of being a counselor
  • Paperwork and note-taking standards
  • Ongoing education and mentoring on theory and technique
  • Working with transference and countertransference
  • Therapist balance and self-care
  • Confidence as a therapist
  • Business building practices
consultation
Refers to professional support provided to counselors, coaches, healers, and organizations who are either already licensed or not working toward licensure. As a consultant, Katie Asmus offers her professional perspective, knowledge, and guidance. Ultimately, you are responsible for how you choose to apply the feedback and support. Consultation may include, but is not limited to:

  • The many professional skills and processes listed under Supervision
  • Wilderness therapy, Ecotherapy, and Adventure therapy theory, skills, and practice
  • Somatic Soul-based Trauma theory, skills, and practice
  • EMDR consultation. Katie Asmus is an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist, consultant, and co-developer and teacher of advanced trainings.  You must have completed an EMDRIA-approved training to receive consultation for this method.
